25 Solos for Mandolin 1900-1942
The Italian Style of Golden Era Vol. 1
The music collected here and republished in a modern edition represents a selection of original works for mandolin solo. It comes from out-of-print magazines and a few publications of that particular time and never printed afterwards to our knowledge. Many works originate from the supplements to the publication "Il Mandolino rivista musicale e letteraria" edited by Giovanni Monticone (+ 1932). This music magazine, the first dedicated only to plectrum instruments, went to press from 1892 to 1937. Another important periodical was "Il Plettro periodico musicale," published in Milan by Alessandro Vizzari (1873-1945) and active from 1907 to 1942.
The collection encompasses concert music and dance pieces in the Italian style of the prewar period. It goes back to the so-called "Golden Age" of the mandolin, around the turn of the 20th century. The music comes from some prominent period composers and by others, almost unknown today.
Each piece in this collection has been carefully retranscribed for modern use, while preserving historical authenticity in every respect: slurs, fingerings, performance indications, effects, dedications, and all other features characteristic of the period.
Conceived for performers, teachers, and scholars alike, the volume enables the rediscovery of long-neglected gems from the mandolin and guitar repertoire.
