Yusuf al-Qaradawi

YUSUF AL-QARADAWI (1926–2022) was among the most influential Islamic jurists of modern times. A leading reformist, he sought a balance between modernity and traditional practices by promoting what he called centrist Islam. However, not everyone regarded him as a centrist.

While admired for his scholarship and advocacy for social justice, he was also a polarising figure. His support for the Arab Spring movement and some contentious fatwas saw him denounced by both Western countries and Middle Eastern autocracies.
