You Deserve A Lover

You Deserve A Lover is David Emmanuelle Castillo's (Cualliyolteotl) first book, which will serve as a prequel to his memoir Armando's Son. Love and relationships is a central theme of the text and David invites us into his healing journey through poetically crafted statements written to family & community, a dialogue between two lovers, and self-love. His transparency in the introduction reveals the ways his traumas (or demons) are connected to his socialization process, resulting in internalized white supremacy and patriarchy/machismo. The rawness in which he speaks sheds light on how this internalization is counter to his Christian faith/spirituality, and its impacts on his own understanding of love and relationships.
