Women in the Wild West

When western lands were opened to American settlers, some women discovered new opportunities that hadn't been available to them back East. In fact, suffrage was offered to women in parts of the West well before it was granted to the nation as a whole. This important book offers a different perspective about the historical time and period called the Wild West, through the lens of women's history. Readers will learn about the famous names of the era, including Annie Oakley and Calamity Jane, but also about often overlooked groups, including Indigenous and Black women of the Wild West.
