Where we live is the place where we live and are content. However, ideas about what this place is all about are increasingly wavering. Social changes are accompanied by new demands on living, which are reflected in innovative living concepts and changed living conditions. The latter are by no means just an expression of preferences, but are largely determined by the housing market. Housing is a fundamental right, and yet housing is a scarce commodity. Buzzwords such as gentrification, economization and privatization refer to this tension and are increasingly being expressed in public debates and protests.
