A witch angers her, a priest intrigues her, and an old enemy threatens her family. There is always some complication when Catherine comes back to her vampire family.   Catherine has run away multiple times, hurt by the indifference of the family master Maurnier. But she has to answer when summoned, so now she is faced with reconciling with Maurnier while the enemy threatens to destroy him and the family she loves.As she learns the lessons she missed in her many absences, and discovers the plans Maurnier has for her, she needs to decide if she will stay and help her family, or run again and be free of Maurnier and his rules. Once certain information the family has been keeping from her is revealed, her choice becomes clear.
