"Who is talking to HU " tells the amazing story of Shamsudeen of Tabrizi who as the "Ya-man-HU' (Godman) of his age, 800 years ago, developed a fascinating relationship with the highly regarded theologian and a professor of Islamic law, Jalal al-din Rumi (1207-1273), in order to teach the ways of an ancient and long forgotten spiritual teaching at a difficult time, and in a hostile and intolerant environment. Shams knew from onset that it would be difficult to openly propagate his unique spiritual knowledge in the Arabian Peninsula at that period when islam was at the zenith of its influence and power in the region. Therefore to teach the ways of HU, he had to use the "voice' of someone else. someone, who by virtue of his pedigree, influence and reputation was simply irreproachable and untouchable. Thus, Rumi became the "voice" and "tongue" of Shams-I-Tabrizi through which he bequeathed the world his great works; "Divan e Sham"s and "The Mathnawi" (which have been described as "the root of the root of the root of all religions"). The story of Shams and Rumi forms the introductory chapter of the book and is followed by six other chapters consisting of the majestic, ecstatic and rapturous poetry from the Divan e shams and the Mathnawi. The book is made up of of 232 pages, with over 200 poems that are divided into six chapters and arranged according to the subject of the poems which dwell on topics such as love, immortality, Soul travel, reincarnation, enlightenment etc. Built into every poem are the words and teachings of Shams I Tabriz which the reader, irrespective of faith, believes and inclination will find thought provoking, enlightening and uplifting. Whether reading just for leisure or seeking inspirations, or guidance to face the challenges of work, career or relationships, the reader would find the book an invaluable companion to be with at all times. It is a useful guide for meditating upon the issues of life, and the discerning reader will find in the pages of the book useful spiritual exercises, tools and words of wisdom that are helpful in facing the vagaries and the many issues of modern living.
