Uthman Bin Affan .. Between the Caliphate and the King

The great majority of Muslims were satisfied with the pledge of allegiance to Uthman, and accepted it with satisfaction and reassurance. Not one of them mentioned at the time of the pledge of allegiance that Othman was from the Umayyads, or mentioned the hostility of the Umayyads to the Messenger of God, their ancient rivalry with the Banu Hashim, and their reluctance to convert to Islam until Mecca opened its gates due to their inability to resist the Muslims. Rather, they all mentioned the Sheikh Caliph''s precedence to Islam, his standing by the Messenger of God, his kind treatment of his two wives, Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthum, his migration to Abyssinia and Medina, and his effort to support the religion of God and its believers.
