In the 1930s Tampa was ranked by the American Civil Liberties Union as one of nine centres of ""anti-labour, anti-Negro, anti-alien, anti-communist, anti-socialist and anti-liberal violence"". This study of collective violence in Tampa focuses on anti-union vigilantism directed by the city's elite.
