We had great jobs and promising Silicon Valley careers. A rent-controlled apartment in one of the most expensive cities in the world. A newborn daughter. And yet we walked away from it all (not the newborn).

In September 2018, Laura Weidman Powers and her husband packed up their baby and set off to travel the world for a year in an effort to reconnect with what makes each of them happy. Their 303 days across 11 countries and 48 cities, bouncing from hotel room to guest room to short-term rental, were spent with little more than two suitcases and a travel crib.

They returned to the US just in time to settle into what soon became the epicenter of a global pandemic, only to realize that the same lessons learned while traveling were the ones that served them best while quarantining.
