Bernd Seidensticker is recognized both in Germany and abroad as an exceptional researcher in the field of classical drama. As such, a collection of his shorter works on this subject, many published in obscure places, is a great desideratum. These works demonstrate the considerable breadth of Seidensticker's interests: apart from studies on the question of the authenticity of ancient texts, his works on central issues of interpretation, such as the role of characters or the problem of tragic peripeteia, are of interest here. Besides Greek tragedies, satirical plays, one of the author's most important fields of work, and the Latin drama are included. The collection is aimed primarily at classical philologists, but scholars of literature, theatre and other fields will also find the collection to their benefit.
