Two on a Tower

Two on a Tower is a novel by Thomas Hardy that follows the love affair between Lady Constantine, a wealthy landowner, and Swithin St. Cleeve, an amateur astronomer. The two meet while observing the stars from a tower on Lady Constantine's estate, and despite their differences in social status, they embark on a passionate but ill-fated romance that is both hindered and complicated by societal expectations and other obstacles.
