N this volume I have endeavoured to give a sketch of the theory of the working of alternating apparatus in the h0pe that it will prove helpful to engineers, teachers and advanced students. In addition to the more elementary parts of the theory, an introduction is given to several of the more difficult problems which arise in practical work.
