The ground-breaking visit to Oman by James Raymond Wellsted, in 1835, gave the first comprehensive view of the country to the wider world.

Wellsted arrived in Muscat with the intention to travel not only extensively though Oman, but eventually into the central region of Arabia. His journey though Oman offers a very sympathetic view of the people and their culture using his experience of over 13 years travelling in the Arab world.
