Over a hundred years passed, today the tram have evolved from single-storey to double-decker, from open-top design in the upper deck to the sealed one, and from natural wind cooling to air-conditioning equipment. Trams are evolving, and the areas that trams travel are also changing every day. This change has continued till now. When the tram started serving the public, it was the fastest and most loaded means of transport in Hong Kong. Today, however, it is one of the slowest and least-loaded modes of transport. In Hong Kong, an efficiency-oriented modern metropolis, where is trams' future? This is a problem worth to be thought about. This book explores the relationship between the tram and Hong Kong's historical development. The author also divided the tram route from west to east into three regions, selecting tram images related to the region and adding some rare and interesting tram collections, to let readers have a thorough understanding of the history of the tram, and thus think the value of today's trams. From theme perspective, this book is not a purely history book as it does not emphasize the history of Hong Kong trams. Instead, I hope readers will reflect on the changes in the society and the attitude of Hong Kong people through the value of trams in Hong Kong. From content perspective, the book contains mainly pictures, with only a small amount of texts. I hope readers could understand the value of trams through tram pictures of different years and different types. From picture perspective, some rare pictures of tramcars are added in this book, in addition to the pictures of tram appearances that ordinary tramcars fans love. At the same time, the pictures span across different decades from the black and white world into colorful one, as many young readers are more interested in post-war Hong Kong development.
