While serving as counselorfor public affairs with theU.S. Embassy In Santo Domingofor four years (1984-88),Foreign Service Officer-Ret. Ernesto Uribe researchedthe U.S. Marine occupation ofthe Island that lastedfrom 1916 until 1924. During his stay he traveled throughout the country andvisited many sites that U.S. Marine troops had actuallyoccupied and listened to accounts by local residentswith memory of the events. He currently lives In Northern Virginia and makesample use of the Library of Congress and theNational Archives In Washington, D.C. for materialand documentation for his writing.
