On May 4, 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard opened fire during an antiwar protest on the Kent State University campus. The events that led up to and include the shootings of May 4 are part of a story that continues to be written. This We Know succinctly documents the facts that fill out the chronology of events of the four fateful days that ended with members of the Ohio National Guard killing Kent State students Sandra Scheuer, Jeffrey Miller, Allison Krause and William Schroeder and wounding nine others. It gathers well-established information from recorded accounts, from the time events happened through what has been learned since. This We Know is the first publication in a series that will explore the history of May 4, 1970, and its meaning for today.
