This Is My Body

This is my body, broken in front of you. In her three-part collection, which delves into her body, mind, and soul, poet Laura Bruce Watt offers her broken form to her reader to feast upon. She painfully conveys the struggle that comes from existing in a body that will inevitably fail, all whilst battling a mind overcome with persistent negative thoughts. Throughout the collection, Watt also writes candidly about her Christian faith, shattering the image of the "e;perfect church girl."e; Despite portraying a woman in a state of crisis, This Is My Body concludes on a hopeful note, with the poet eventually gaining awareness that her soul is not entirely her own to keep and protect--she can gladly give her immortal soul over to God.
