Theater, soccer, anarchism, and propaganda

The research presented here aims to analyze, through comparative methods, two leisure and propaganda activities developed by workers and anarchist militants in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century: Anarchist Theater and Solidarity Soccer. Both theater and soccer are understood as potential objects for broadening our understanding of society during this period and, particularly, of the emerging working class. Through this investigation, we aim to understand the multiple dimensions of these experiences, the tensions, contradictions, and ideological disputes in the realm of leisure.
