and his blotchy face turned a grave white

І плямисте обличчя його стало могильно білим

"And did you really have the three wishes granted?"

- І невже ви виконали три бажання?

"I had my wishes granted," confirmed the sergeant-major

- Мої бажання були виконані, - підтвердив старшина

"And has anybody else wished?" asked the old lady

А чи бажав ще хтось? - запитала старенька

"The first man had his three wishes," was the reply

Перший чоловік мав три бажання, - була відповідь

"I don't know what the first two wishes were"

Я не знаю, якими були перші два бажання

"but the third wish was for death"

Але третє бажання було на смерть

"That's how I got the monkey's paw"

His tones had gotten very grave
