The Higher Powers of Mind and Spirit by Ralph Waldo Trine is basically a treatise on what we might call 'the inner life expressed in the outer life'. The author was deeply committed to the teaching of Jesus that, "the kingdom of God is within you," and that there are 'higher powers of mind and spirit.' Because of this fact he seeks to emphasize that personal salvation is not to be the prime focus of the believers concern, but rather, how to express the nature of the kingdom in our acts and thoughts in the many affairs of the world around us. According to him "to strike the right balance in life is one of the supreme essentials of all successful living."
