The Speech of Sweden or The Artist and His Time by Albert Camus deals with the impact of art on society and the role of the artist in confronting social and political challenges. The book contains two speeches, one of which Camus gave at the Swedish Academy upon receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957, in which he addresses the harsh conditions in his homeland, Algeria, under colonialism. The second speech talks about his personal views on art and its making. This work is considered a documentation of the depth of Camus''s thought and an exploration of the place of art in a time of alienation and the search for identity and freedom.
