The day of Socrates'' passing was one of the defining days in the history of human thought, as it was the day on which the most important philosopher of Athens went to death with his thoughts, not just his feet. Socrates sparked a major intellectual battle in Athens, after he opposed the established philosophies that had ruled Greece for a long time, and he was able to bring to him the youth of the Athenian aristocracy, most notably the philosopher Plato, who was at that time in his intellectual formation stage. This is what upset conservatives, religious people, and poets of modest talent, so they filed complaints with the legal ruler accusing Socrates of insulting the gods and inciting the youth against the ruling regime. In the year 399 BC, the Athenian judiciary sentenced him to drink poison. It was the strangest trials of that era, as a man was tried for the first time because of his words, and he chose death so that his ideas might live.
