"The Chorna rada" - is the most famous historical novel by P. Kulish, dedicated to the events of the war for liberation in Ukraine in the XVII. In 1663 the common Cossack meeting was gathered in Nizhyn to elect the hetman of the Left-bank Ukraine. The period of the split after the repudiation by the unfortunate manager Yuri Khmelnytsky became the really "black" for Ukraine - the gloomy period before becoming the part of the other empire.
