This book draws on narrative inquiry and a unique ‘whole-of-school’ stakeholder approach to elevate the often-hidden, ignored or dismissed voices of school leaders and decision makers, administrators, support workers, teachers and parents. A detailed analysis of the stakeholder’s narratives, alongside a wealth of international, cross-disciplinary research, provides new and more holistic perspectives of technology-related consequences and their impact on: educational goals, school leadership and organisation, teaching and learning, health and safety, homelife and parenting, the economy and environment, and legal and ethical aspects of education. Deficits in technology governance are also revealed and the ongoing and systemic nature of the consequences and impacts are shown to detract from the core business of schooling, duty-of-care obligations to protect staff and students from risk of harm, and from society’s expectations of judicious educational technology realisation and benefits.
