Josie York is not your average sixteen-year-old. For almost a year, she has been able to see and talk to ghosts, an ability that makes Josie's best friend Jenna LaPage eager to explore the unknown while Josie just wants to be normal. But, along with Jenna's brother Simon and his friend Dave, they keep finding themselves among the dead.

So when Josie and Dave join the LaPage family on vacation in Florida, Josie hopes that the only problem she will have will be deciding which bikini to wear to capture the attention of her crush Simon. But a missing girl turns things upside-down for them when they find out that Josie has seen her, and all Josie knows is that time is running out.
