Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extraction

The high price and environmental safety issues of conventional organic solvents have compelled the pharmaceutical and food industries to develop new processing techniques. Supercritical extraction using liquid carbon dioxide was found to be the one stop solution for addressing environmental challenges in low cost. Fluid state carbon dioxide held at or above its critical temperature and critical pressure, is known as supercritical carbon dioxide. From the end of 1970s, supercritical fluid extraction has become popular to isolate natural products, but for a long period of time its applications were limited to only a handful of products. With the development in science and technologies, supercritical extraction finds more application in various industries with updated techniques. This book summarizes some of the advances, experimental procedures of the latest developments in the domain of supercritical fluid technology by using supercritical carbon dioxide.
