Sumatra

Published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore, in 2010, this book explores the art of Sumatra. It traces the major streams of influence on the visual culture of the island: the indigenous cultures, as well as contacts with India, China, the Islamic world, and Europe. Sumatra responded in nuanced and complex ways to these traditions.
