Mike Wise is a good detective in a bad place, a pariah in his own city five years after a nightmare job gone wrong. Despite his skills, Mike is plagued by blank spots in his memory caused by years of alcohol abuse. That's why he's surprised when he's offered a lucrative job by a police detective associate: to scare off the young lover of a promising politician. In his commission of that assignment, Mike enters a labyrinth of murder, greed, and betrayal deeper and darker than he could have imagined.As Mike is drawn further into the mystery, the world itself seems to change around him, casting doubt on what--and who--he truly knows.
