The Sound and the Fury is a novel written by American writer William Faulkner. It tells the family tragedy of the southern landlord Compson family. For readers who like Faulkner's works, this book is not to be missed. The elder Compson is idle and indulges in alcohol. His wife is selfish and cold, complaining about the world. The eldest son desperately clings to the so-called old traditions of the South, and is torn between love and hate due to his sister's promiscuity and dishonoring of the Southern lady's identity. He even drowned himself and committed suicide. The second son is cold and greedy, while the third son is an idiot with the intelligence of a three-year-old child at the age of 33.The full text revolves around the fall of the sister through the inner monologues of the three sons, and is complemented by the black maid's "e;limited perspective"e; in the first three parts. The work uses multi-perspective narrative methods and montage and other stream-of-consciousness techniques, making it a classic work of stream-of-consciousness fiction and even modernist fiction as a whole.
