Social Constructions of Deafness

"Languaculture" describes the inextricable codependency of a language and its culture. In "Social Constructions of Deafness", deaf scholar Thomas P. Horejes navigates the complicated implications of languaculture for the deaf community. Horejes observed two deaf kindergarten classrooms, one orally-based and the other sign language-based, in order to ascertain the shared and divergent challenges to academic, linguistic, and social instruction.
