Cyndi grows up in small town Texas, where love is scarce, but punishment is not. Queer is a threat, silence is obedience, and cruelty is discipline. When her home becomes unlivable, Cyndi is sent to live with relatives that offer no safety and only a different version of control. With her cousin, Bonnie, Cyndi learns about identity, survival, and how to disappear in a cruel world.  Six is My Name is a bleak trans coming of age novel. It is not about redemption. It is not about hope.
