She Stoops to Conquer is a comedy play in five acts by Oliver Goldsmith, first performed in London in 1773. It tells the story of how a young man is tricked into thinking that the house of the woman he wants to marry is an inn. Despite the misunderstanding and inappropriate behavior that ensue, his potential fiancee sees the good in him. Meanwhile, an arranged marriage between two other characters is thwarted.
