She Stoops to Conquer; Or, The Mistakes of a Night

She Stoops to Conquer is a comedy play in five acts by Oliver Goldsmith, first performed in London in 1773. It tells the story of how a young man is tricked into thinking that the house of the woman he wants to marry is an inn. Despite the misunderstanding and inappropriate behavior that ensue, his potential fianc e sees the good in him. Meanwhile, an arranged marriage between two other characters is thwarted.
