Judith and Kali have left behind their hidden world in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. With Paul by her side, Judith faces adjusting to life on the "outside." It''s a whole new world to still mute Kali, who finds that she loves hamburgers and fries, and learns what it''s like to have a friend her age. Paul''s parents take them in, and the girls are comforted by being part of a family again. The girls experience a constant stream of new experiences as they adjust to modern life. Meanwhile, danger haunts them all after the killers of Judith and Kali''s family are released on bail. 

A Sapling Grows is a novel about resilience, drive, and retribution as two sisters acclimate to life outside of the great Kalmiopsis wilderness and become part of the community in Gold Beach, Oregon.
