Romance of Certain Old Bones

The first Trace and Boz adventure! Five years before the eerie events of THE CURSE OF JACOB TRACY, Jacob and his new trail partner, John Bosley, take a job leading a pack of paleontologists out to the Badlands near Hell Creek, Montana, to dig for the bones of extinct monsters. It's a dangerous job; not only is the area home to warring tribes of Indians, but a rival camp of bone-diggers is right across the creek and some of them may be willing to commit murder to score a scientific coup.
