Hanging was too good for Ma Foley and her outlaw sons. Cold-blooded killers and proud of it, this homicidal family would gun a man down as soon as look at him. Folks in Shelby County knew they were under Ma Foley's heel, and there was nothing they could do about it and expect to live.
