This is an ancient myth with historical basis. The king of Xia, Taikang, was derived of power by the rebel leader of Qiong, Hou Yi. The next leader of the Xia Si Xiang was killed by Hou Yi's adopted son Han Zhuo. Si Xiang's wife escaped from the dog-hole in pregnancy, and gave birth to Si Shaokang. Later, Shaokang learned his identity and developed his own land and army and began to contact the tribes.
