Research-Creation in Academia

Engendering speculative encounters for intensities and becoming, this book stories together a collection of learning events of marginalised children, exemplifying different approaches to pedagogical practices, which foster inquiry and potentialities for rethinking educational practices beyond the confines of the neoliberal and neurotypical. In order to avoid the formalising structure of writing with chapters, the writing instead pleats together a processual web of real people, fictional characters, unutterable discourses, as well as ordinary objects of the everyday, that educate and teach us what a collective sensing of learning might look like. By refusing to engage in the disabling constraints of formal pedagogical practices, prescribed by the systemic mechanism of institutional bodies, the process of sketch-booking offers engagement with education research and pedagogy, to reimagining who and what can be valued in academia; suggesting how practicing art artfully can trouble and challenge the colonial structure that continues to marginalise and exclude. This book will be of particular interest to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and doctoral supervisors, in Education, as well as practitioners involved in supporting students' art and making practices. Perhaps, most importantly, the book will activate movement into provocations within research-creative inventions that extend the continuing emergence of post qualitative inquiry. As such, this writing will speak to all those who care deeply about the democratisation of education and to those seeking inspiration as to what this might entail.
