Rachel McKinney has suffered a painful divorce and wants to move to a new environment. Her best friend convinces her to move to Poughkeepsie, New York where she lives. Rachel ends up buying a condo that is inexpensive because the former tenant, Sally Torrington, had been murdered there. Rachel is happy with her new home until she has a home invasion. Scared, she decides to find out more about Sally. A local police officer, Ben Everett, investigates the home invasion and there is an immediate spark between them. With Ben's help, and with the help of Bobbi and brother Jeff, Rachel spends the rest of the book investigating. She meets interesting characters including Tiffany a prostitute, Bruno, a mafia type, Connie, a mysterious clinic owner and others.
