Recurrent aphthous ulceration

Recurrent aphthous ulceration (RAU) is a benign ulcerated lesion frequently found in the non-keratinized oral mucosa. Its etiopathogenesis has not yet been precisely established, however, it is known that some factors are related to its cause, such as local, systemic, immunological, genetic, allergic, nutritional, and microbial factors. Several treatments are recommended to promote repair, control symptoms, and reduce the frequency of recurrences, as there is no definitive cure for these ulcers. This study aims to present the causal factors of RAB, its clinical characteristics, diagnostic criteria, and therapeutic challenges, focusing on clinical management and advances in laser therapy.
