Rabbit-Proof Fence: the screenplay

Three Aboriginal girls are forcibly removed from their outback families in 1931 to be trained as domestic servants as part of official government policy. They escape and begin a 1500-mile journey home using a rabbit-proof fence as their guide, with the authorities chasing them all the way. Winner of a NSW Premier''s Award for Script Writing and a Community Relations Commission Award, the screenplay is adapted from Doris Pilkington Garimara''s book Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence, which is based on her mother''s true story.
