St. Malachy O'Moore (Mael Maedoc Ua Morgair) was a 12th-century Irish bishop and abbot and, for a time, Primate of Ireland. He was a champion of Church reform in Ireland, in terms of standardizing sacramental rites according to the Roman usage, and a friend of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, dying in the latter's hands. These Prophecies of St. Malachy, discovered in 1590 and attributed to St. Malachy, are of uncertain origin. What is known is that they provide a significant account of popes from 1140 through 1590, and reasonable predictions on through to our own day. Many have claimed the last entries to refer to the popes of our own times: John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis. Whatever the case may be, God only knows. We do know that St. Malachy was a holy bishop; hopefully these prophecies above all lead you to greater veneration of him, who will lead you to Christ.
