Practical music-making content in music lessons

Looking at the current curriculum for the new secondary school, it is clear that, alongside other areas, practical music-making must not be neglected in modern teaching. Singing, dancing and music-making must be offered as part of music education. In order to make these activities appealing to pupils, it is essential that teachers reflect on their teaching. However, during puberty, young people go through numerous developments that they first have to learn to deal with. This can make it difficult to engage in practical music-making activities at school. Often, music is no longer played in families, so teachers should act as role models and convey the joy of making music to children. A study conducted in the new secondary school shows that there are differences in the frequency of music-making among the majority of pupils. The pupils' wishes regarding music lessons and their perception of lesson content were also analysed.
