Port of Leith and Granton

From the 15th Century, Leith has been the port for Scotland's Capital. Originally a separate burgh, Leith & Granton have been one of the most important ports in Scotland. From whaling to grain imports to the building of some of the most exclusive steam yachts in the world, the port has been an important provider of jobs for the past three centuries or more. Subjects covered inside include shipbuilding at Henry Robb's, local shipping lines such as Christian Salvesen, London & Edinburgh and the Currie Line, ferries and passenger sailings, as well as the industry that grew up beside the port, from rope works to bonded warehouses.
