Hassan was a rice planter. His small hut wasfilled with relatives and friends. They had come toHassans hut because his wife, Minah, was about togive birth to their first child. Someone had made abig kettle of coffee and some of the women hadprepared some cakes. So, they drank coffee, atecakes and chatted while waiting for the baby to bedelivered. As was usual with kampong folk in the olddays, a midwife was going to help Minah to deliverher child.
