I led a country life on an offshore island. I am familiar with the traditional folk customs. In my memory, there are setting fire crackers at the Spring Festival of the lunar calendar, holding to the dragon boat on the Dragon Boat Festival, village theatrical performance at Tin Hau Festival, sparkler-grabbing, rural marriage customs, poon choi and Yesteryear Neen Koh. I had strong thirst for knowledge when I was young so I asked the fellow villagers the origins and stories of the customs. I insisted on getting to the bottom of the matter. At that time pictures and records were not popularized, so many data were recorded in words or diagrams. Later I became a policeman so I had more opportunities to contact people from all walks of life and different things. Besides the matters related to work, I would also inquire the things I was interested in. There were so many times I could learn the little-known inside information.
