Poetry of Weddings

Whilst those of us old enough to remember the sixties might have thought weddings would become obsolete for all but the faithful, they still seem for most of us to be the benchmark, the gold standard of a relationship.The symbolism in the joining together of these two hands is a powerful and loving statement of fact and intent, of love, commitment and sacrifice between two people. Whether we take these vows in religious ceremonies, spiritual gatherings, or merely as one human being to another the words have meanings and values equal to our needs, our wants, and our desires.Our classic poets speak from many viewpoints, many perspectives, as they gather word, phrase and verse into near sacred lines to celebrate, share, and state their love, their spiritual and emotional commitment, to this union with the souls and pens of Shakespeare, Keats, Millay, Teasdale and many others. This occasion is made to glisten with emotion and to endure with that very mysterious emotion called love.
