This is a true story that opens in the mid 60’s. The main character, Lloyd, had already been in many hospitals for various reasons, but his self-determination begins with his admission to The Crippled Children’s Hospital in Elizabethtown, Penna. The reader enters a world heretofore unknown to average people. Lloyd is apprehensive, but excited to finally take control of his life. Slowly and methodically he claws his way to the top of a very hardened boys ward hierarchy. We follow Lloyd and his cohorts in an institutional setting that would make “Lord of the Flies” look like a church social. Lloyd soon finds that separation from family and the emotional turmoil of a daily dog-eat-dog existence far outweigh enduring numerous surgeries and severe infections. Entertaining while providing a detailed peak into the medical system of the 60''s, this book is a tribute to anyone suffering physical and mental anguish.
