Horst Züger''s novel tells the story of a grieving man who, after losing his wife, attempts suicide, is saved, and ends up in a psychiatric ward. After a lengthy stay, he is deemed cured and moves to a nursing home. There, Paul wins people over with his friendly manner, especially Agnes, a woman of African descent.Her daughter Monika, born out of wedlock in Africa, unconsciously finds a surrogate father in Paul. He helps her with her schoolwork and offers wise advice, which makes Agnes proud. But evil takes the form of an acquaintance who wants to sexually possess Monika, even if it means using force.
